The Doug Wright Awards is having a kickstarter for their 10th anniversary ceremony!!

To commemorate 10 years of celebrating Canadian comics artists, both of contemporary and legacy standing, the DWA’s have invited past winners and nominees to create original art based on Nipper, one of Doug Wright’s most beloved characters. If this campaign gets funded, there will be a 10th anniversary zine of all the contributions available for purchase at the awards!!

Among the creators who are contributing to the campaign and book: Seth, Chester BrownJoe OllmanMichael ChoPascal GirardMichael DeForgeDiana TamblynDave CollierAlex FellowsJohn Martz, <Ann Marie FlemingMichael ComeauKatherine VerhovenMatthew DaleyTin Can ForestChris KuzmaDakota McFadzeanKate LethEric Kim and me!!!

That’s my contribution at the top of this post :)

Inducted into this year’s Giants of the North, the Canadian Cartooning Hall of Fame is the World War II group of cartoonists referred to as the “Canadian Whites.”

The “Canadian Whites” were black-and-white comics produced between 1941 and 1946 that contained a host of original and iconic Canadian characters such as Johnny Canuck, Canada Jack and Nelvana of the Northern Lights. These characters were created by the likes of Murray Karn, Adrian Dingle, Gerry Lazare, Leo Bachle and Jack Tremblay.

The event will also serve as the official launch of a new collection of the complete Nelvana of the Northern Lights by Adrian Dingle, being published by CGA Comics.

Help keep the celebration of Canadian comics going for 10 more years!

Look at all these lovely homages to Doug Wright.
